Since time immemorial, artists have been fascinated with the night: a time of mystery, wonder, danger, and conspiracy. The term “Nocturne”, or music of the night, was popularized by composers such as Frederic Chopin, who employed the western classical idiom to paint dreamscapes evocative of the night. Tonight, Archival Records is proud to bring to you a group of 21st century artists, painting the night with sound.

Penrose Mind is a duo making modern music informed by their study of classical composition at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Their deep study of the classical masters like Brahms and Beethoven engages with their love of pop, rock, and jazz to create rich and dynamic music for electric guitar and piano that can only exist in this moment in time. Dâryuš Makâni and José Vargas (SFCM 24') look to the future prepared by their experience with the past to keep you enthralled in the present.
eclipse.xiv is a dynamic composer & ambient producer with a focus on world-building. Born in San Francisco and active across the Bay Area, she has spent the last few years building a sprawling discography featuring 4 mainline albums, one major electroacoustic composition, and many singles. Her work reckons with the apocalyptic times we are living in, viewing human society from a post-human perspective. The core setting of her work is an archival museum staffed by spirits and machines, set 10,000 years after the extinction of humanity. eclipse.xiv creates soundscapes across this world, telling of the interplay between nature & technology. for Neoclassical Nocturne, she is proud to present a journey of her best neoclassical works across her discography, paired with a slate of piano improvisations.
